Spring Cleaning
“When I hear that robin’s song,
I know it won’t be long,
Find out where we belong,
We’re starting a new life”
--Van Morrison
Preheating my coffee cup, with outdoor temperatures below freezing and high winds whipping around the house at dawn today, it occurred to me that once again March will go out like a lion in Northern New England. Doesn’t it always?
I can think of this season as late winter, or I can think of it as early spring. There are, outside my door, purple crocuses curled up against the cold, yet they will open in today’s afternoon sun. I will cut some forsythia branches today, to force their blooms in a vase of warm water indoors. And I will do some housecleaning.
As I sweep the cobwebs away, I plan to think about what else I can let go of. What else, besides winter weather, am I ready to say good-bye to? As I pile up some clothing and household items that I no longer need, what else might I no longer need? Do I have any less tangible attachments that serve me no more? Do I have thoughts and feelings that I might let go of, to make room for something new? Do you?
A cleansing of the spirit, so to speak. Why not? What do we have to lose by letting go? What do we have to gain? (This is your prompt today.)
